As a resident of Milford Connecticut and a mortgage professional I’m excited for the spring season to be approaching. One of the biggest reasons why – is it’s the buying season! Driving around town I have noticed a good number of houses that are already for sale and I can only imagine more will pop up soon. There are some things you need to know when you are beginning the mortgage process:


1. Getting pre-approved is the first and most important step. What I mean is – you will have to know your negotiating limits. This is important because many times when you put in an offer on a property they may not take your first offer and the sellers will counter. If this is your dream home, you don’t want to be stuck not knowing if you can qualify for their counter offer.


2. When you get pre-approved not only do you see what you are qualified for but you can also go over some of the estimated costs and expenses that come with buying a home. You want to be aware of escrows, taxes, legal fees and etc.


3. Last thing is more for first time home buyers. A lot of times when I talk to first time buyers they are not familiar how the process works, what steps they need to take or even how much it costs to buy a home. You are going to want to spend a fair amount of time with your Loan Originator (I am hoping that will be me) and talk through all the steps of the process and ask tons of questions so that you are prepared for your home purchase.
